The

House System

House System Objectives

KD’s house system was established last academic year (2015-2016) to provide our boys with a greater sense of community within the whole school environment. Pupils are able to engage and interact with other members of their house by participating in numerous inter-house competitions, charity events and extra-curricular activities that occur throughout the year.

Our aim is to provide every pupil in each house with the following opportunities:

  • A sense of belonging: within the school and wider community fostering a greater awareness of self and others.
  • A sense of achievement: both in and out of a formal classroom setting.
  • A sense of adventure: in developing leadership skills, along with the fun and excitement through competition.
  • A sense of fulfilment: in developing one’s social, intellectual, moral, spiritual, physical and practical life skills.

House organisation:

The house system is split into 3 different houses primarily referred to by their House virtue:

TRUST, TALENT and TENACITY.

Pupils are assigned to one of three houses on entrance to the school in Year 7. At the end of Year 9/10, students can apply to be House captain or Deputy House captain.

The name of the house is based on the Virtue of each of the three great “Companions of the house” who epitomised and were once the best walking examples of that particular virtue.

Recognition and Reward for the Winning House

The winning House at the end of the year receives the honour of their house name being engraved on the prestigious House Shield. The House with the most points at the end of the year is also rewarded with a trip.
